Tregoze Primary School - Inspire, Motivate, Challenge

Newsflash: The value for term 2 is Perseverance

Supporting Your Childs Learning

At Tregoze Primary, we really appreciate the support and time that parents give to help their children thrive within our school. Helping your child with their learning can be a daunting experience, so we have provided some information and resources in order to help you.

We are pleased to announce the launch of JIGSAW at Tregoze – The Mindful approach to PSHE.  This brand new comprehensive scheme of work is taking us on a new exciting journey.  The focus of this scheme is mindfulness to teach children to be aware of their thoughts and feelings as they happen, in the present  moment, on purpose with no judgements.  We had a whole school assembly today to introduce our theme this term which is Celebrating Difference.  Please take this opportunity to discuss the theme with your children and find out about their learning in these lessons.

Supporting with phonics

What is Phonics?
In order to give children the best chance possible to become fluent readers within their time at school, children are taught to use synthetic phonics as a way of working out what unknown words are. Your child will be encouraged to learn letter sounds as well as the sounds of groups of letters, in order to use and apply them to read different words.

How can I help?
We are really grateful to the parents who spend time supporting the education of their child at home, and reading is one of the key areas where parents can help. The earlier children are exposed to books, the better they will perform with their reading, as well as with their use of their imagination and ability to be creative. We have provided links to the following websites which can provide activities and advice about how to use phonics at home.
BBC words and pictures provides a range of games and activities to do with your child.
This website provides support, advice and activities for children who need help with their reading.
