Year 4 have been working extremely hard since we returned from the Christmas holidays and this week was no different.
In Maths, we have used our previous learning of multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit to practise multiplying 3 digits by 1 digit. We have been using the short method for multiplication building on the skills we have learned using the expanded method. The children have really grasped this new learning and have been able to apply it to word problems and challenges.
In Literacy, we have been analysing, planning and writing our own newspaper reports. As our literacy work has been based around the book 'Wolves in the Walls', the children have created their own newspaper reports on the wolves bursting out of the walls. We have investigated what makes a great headline and experimented with word play and alliteration to produce our own catchy headlines.
Our topic session this week focussed on the different layers of the oceans. We looked in detail at the various layers and the characteristics of each layer. The children produced some excellent picture models to represent each layer and the creatures you may find there.
Our Skills Force sessions are rapidly coming to an end as we only have 3 weeks left of our Junior Prince Award but the children continue to show how well they have developed as a team since we started in September. Our teamwork and communication displayed during our activities has really impressed our instructor and it has been great to see the children using strategies that have been introduced during the 15 week period.
In PE, we have been learning how to play 'Quicksticks', which is as mall sided version of Hockey. We have spent some time recapping grip, stance and dribbling technique and have been able to apply this to various games and activities.
