Art

At Tregoze Primary School, we really value the creative curriculum. Through topic work in the classroom, children have the opportunity to develop their art skills in key areas, such as drawing, clay, textiles, sculpture, painting, print making, and collage. These areas are developed continuously throughout the school from early years through to year 6.

We encourage children to be inspired by the work of great artists, to engage in a wide range resources and media, and to be inventive and creative. As a school, we encourage the children to critically evaluate the work of a range of artists, designers, and craftworkers, including the artist of the term. We discuss their work and each class undertakes a project related to the artist. Recently, we had a lovely display of Van Gogh’s work — The Starry Night. We develop critical thinking by making links with art in other areas of the curriculum, including reading and writing.

We take great pride in displaying the children’s artwork around the school and also participate in The White Horse Federation arts festival in the summer term. We have recently welcomed a local artist into our school to work with all our children on a largescale project which is on display in our school hall. Each child created a bird using a variety of paints or collage materials which the artist displayed on trees made from large sheets of painted wood. The children are able to see, admire, and talk about their work whenever they are in the school hall.
